TRAINING CAMP

TRAINING CAMP

• Ages 9 to 17 •

The goal of this program is to train the next generation of young sailors, focusing on developing the technical, physical, and mental skills needed to excel on the water, while fostering a spirit of camaraderie and sharing among our young participants.

Much more than just an advanced sailing program, we want to offer an enriching experience where your young people can grow, both personally and athletically. This program is distinguished by a comprehensive approach that cultivates discipline, opens up new perspectives for the future, and builds self-confidence in young athletes.

At Voile Sansoucy, sailing is much more than a sport: it is a school of life. It teaches perseverance, resilience in the face of challenges, and develops essential skills such as stress management, adaptability, and a spirit of adventure.

Information to consider

Competitive sailing programs usually require participants to purchase their own boat. To make our program more accessible, we include boat rental in the registration fee for the entire duration of the program—even outside of coaching hours.

Who is the program for?
We especially invite young people who:

– want to sail more intensively
– aim to progress to CanSail levels 3 and 4
– want to learn about racing, tactics, and competition preparation
– may want to join the Quebec sailing circuit in the coming years
– already have an interest in sailing or have completed (at least) one week of sailing camp.

To discuss the details of the program or to see if it meets your child’s needs, please email us at info@voilesansoucy.com.

We will be happy to guide you.

YOUTH PROGRAM (AGES 9-12)

TRAINING CAMP

• SATURDAY FROM 9:00 AM TO 4:00 PM •

The youth component of the program is designed for young sailors who want to go beyond a simple sailing camp. Aimed at 9- to 12-year-olds, it offers a structured, stimulating, and safe environment where sailors can learn the basics of advanced sailing and get an introduction to regattas.

In this setting, young people learn to master a dinghy adapted to their age, ideal for developing advanced technical skills: balance, sail control, wind reading, decision-making, and independent navigation on the water. This program is an excellent introduction to competitive sailing, allowing participants to progress quickly while gaining confidence in their abilities.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAM (AGES 13-17)

TRAINING CAMP

• Various options available •

The performance component is designed for young people aged 13 to 17 who want to perfect their sailing skills in a dynamic, advanced, regatta-oriented environment. Focused on CanSail levels 3 and 4, the program places particular emphasis on regatta mastery, racing strategy, and progression in varied conditions.

Athletes train primarily on Lasers (ILCA) and catamarans, two fast and technical boats that allow them to develop advanced sailing skills. Over the course of the season, young people develop their technical skills, physical fitness, and mental abilities: speed management, optimization of settings, decision-making under pressure, analysis of conditions, and in-depth understanding of racing rules.

This program offers comprehensive preparation for regatta performance and is an ideal gateway for young people who want to progress to a higher competitive level or simply challenge themselves in a motivating, structured environment supervised by certified coaches.

REGATTAS

REGATTA TRAINING COURSE

In addition to sailing camps and training camps offered during the summer, Voile Sansoucy offers a weekend introductory regatta course. Open to all young people with sailing experience as well as athletes from the training camps, this two-day course focuses on regatta starts, racing tactics, and strategy management on the water.

WEEKLY REGATTA

All our training programs include junior club membership, allowing young athletes to participate in weekly regattas organized by the social committee.

In addition to their training sessions, young people are invited to put their skills into practice during Wednesday evening regattas. These events give them the opportunity to experience competition in a friendly setting, integrate into the club’s adult community, and consolidate their skills in a formative and stimulating environment.

An Optimist circuit dedicated to 9- to 12-year-olds is organized in parallel with the adult circuit. Young people in the performance program (ages 13 to 17) take part in the main circuit, with a 5-minute delayed start, allowing them to compete in a fleet adapted to their level while familiarizing themselves with the demands of more challenging regattas.

QUEBEC CIRCUIT REGATTAS

Our programs are primarily aimed at developing a lasting passion for sailing. Participation in regattas is therefore never mandatory: young people can fully engage in training camps without taking part in competitions.

That said, for those who wish to take on new challenges and put their learning into practice in a competitive setting, it is possible to represent the club in external regattas.

Several events on the Quebec circuit offer Green Fleet categories, which are open to all young sailors who want to enjoy their first racing experiences in an inclusive, educational, and pressure-free environment.

For more advanced regattas, the coach will select outstanding athletes and invite them to participate. These young people will then have the opportunity to compete at a higher level and represent Voile Sansoucy on the provincial scene.

Participation in regattas will be discussed with coaches during the season.
